Pi-hole

Network-wide ad blocking and DNS filtering for home networks.

Why people self-host Pi-hole

Pi-hole provides network-wide DNS filtering with a familiar dashboard and a long track record in home networks. It is useful for blocking ads, trackers, and noisy domains before traffic reaches devices.

The tradeoff is that DNS filtering can break sites and needs allowlist care. Run a secondary resolver or document rollback before making it the household default.

Deployment notes

Pi-hole is listed with support signals for linux, docker. Check the upstream documentation before exposing it to the internet, review authentication defaults, and keep backups outside the primary host.
