Joplin Server is listed with support signals for linux, docker. Check the upstream documentation before exposing it to the internet, review authentication defaults, and keep backups outside the primary host.
The usual setup is two containers: the server image and PostgreSQL. Set the base URL to the exact address clients will use, put HTTPS in front, and change the default admin login immediately. Resource use is small. All notes and attachments live in Postgres by default, so a regular database dump is the backup. Each device also holds a full local copy, which is a helpful safety net.

Do I need Joplin Server to sync Joplin?
No. Joplin also syncs over WebDAV, Nextcloud, S3, Dropbox, or a plain folder. Joplin Server is faster with large note collections and adds sharing between users.
Can I read my notes in a browser with Joplin Server?
Not really. The web interface is for managing users and shares. Notes are read and edited in the Joplin apps, apart from individual notes you choose to publish.
