Why people self-host LinkAce
LinkAce is a focused bookmark archive with tags, lists, and link monitoring. It fits people who want organized saved links without a larger knowledge-base system.
The tradeoff is less full-page capture than archive-first tools. Set up scheduled link checks and define a tag taxonomy early.
What LinkAce does well
- Bookmarks organized with tags and lists, each with notes and a description.
- Scheduled link checks that flag dead or moved pages.
- Automatic submission to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine for a lasting copy.
- A REST API, a bookmarklet, and HTML import and export.
Who LinkAce is for
LinkAce is a self-hosted bookmark manager for people who think of their links as a curated library, not a reading queue. It suits researchers, writers, and anyone migrating years of Pinboard or browser bookmarks who wants to keep them tidy and know when they rot. It does not store full copies of pages itself.
Deployment notes
LinkAce is listed with support signals for linux, docker. Check the upstream documentation before exposing it to the internet, review authentication defaults, and keep backups outside the primary host.
It is a Laravel application with an official Docker setup, and it works with MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or SQLite. The link checker and Wayback backups depend on the scheduler, so make sure the cron job from the install guide is actually running. Resource needs are low and a shared small VPS is fine. The database is the whole backup.
Common questions about LinkAce
Does LinkAce archive web pages?
Not locally. It asks the Wayback Machine to save each link and gives you the archived URL. If you need copies on your own disk, look at Linkwarden or Karakeep.
Can I import my browser bookmarks into LinkAce?
Yes. Export bookmarks from your browser as an HTML file and import it. Folders become tags, which you can tidy up afterwards.
