Why people self-host Emby

Emby sits between Jellyfin and Plex for operators who want a familiar media-server workflow with commercial support and many device clients. It handles metadata, transcoding, and user libraries well enough for shared households.

The tradeoff is that important features can sit behind a paid license and the project is not fully open. Check client availability and premium feature requirements before migrating a large library.
