Navidrome focuses on music rather than every media type. It is lightweight, fast on small servers, and compatible with many Subsonic clients, which makes it appealing for people who want a private Spotify-like collection.
The tradeoff is narrow scope: video, podcasts, and rich household media controls belong elsewhere. Keep tags clean, test mobile client sync, and back up the database alongside the audio files.

It is one Go binary or a small Docker image using SQLite. Mount the music folder read-only and a data folder for the database. Navidrome trusts your file tags completely, so a pass with MusicBrainz Picard or beets beforehand pays off more than any setting. For apps, try Symfonium or Tempo on Android, play:Sub or Amperfy on iOS, and Feishin or Supersonic on desktop. Back up the data folder to keep playlists and ratings.

Is Navidrome a Spotify alternative?
For music you already own, yes: your library on any device with playlists and offline downloads in the client apps. It does not provide a catalog of music you have not bought.
